No license is required for guest rentals and guided rides. You do need to meet the operator's minimum age to drive, sign the equipment release, and sit through the safety briefing — throttle, kill-cord, right-of-way and the speed zones inside the lagoon. Guides ride alongside on guided tours and set the route; free rentals stay inside a marked area.
The Nichupté lagoon is the standard, and it's the better ride: protected water, mangrove edges, and none of the swell that turns an open-sea run into a spine test. Conditions are also far more predictable, which means fewer weather cancellations. Open-water riding exists but is restricted by zone and by the port authority's daily call.
Yes — most units seat two, with one driver and one passenger, and only the driver needs to meet the age requirement. Sharing is the cheapest way to do it, but you're splitting the same session, not getting two. If both of you want real time at the throttle, agree on a swap point before you launch.
